Righteousness
No sinner can be accepted in the sight of God, you must be clothed in righteousness to come into the presence of God.
“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20)
How Do We Get Righteousness?
We need the forgiveness of sins and to be clothed in righteousness in order to stand in the presence of God. We receive the righteousness of God by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour.
“For he made himself who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Christ’s suffering and agonising death on the cross is what makes righteousness possible for believers. Jesus took our sins upon himself and gives us His righteousness in return.
Righteousness means, right standing with God. Righteousness is the condition of being in right relationship with God only made possible because we have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Those who have been saved can only stand before God because they are clothed in Christ’s righteousness. When God looks on those who are saved he no longer sees a sinner but the righteousness of Christ.
