God’s Message
If you should die today, were would you spend eternity? The Bible declares that when we die, we will spend eternity in one of two places, Heaven or Hell. God tells us that you can know for sure that you have eternal life in heaven when you die. Here’s how…there are a few Bible truths that you must understand,
Every Person Born Into This World Inherited A Sinful Nature.
“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man [Adam], and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” (Romans 5:12)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)
This Sinful Nature Produces All Sorts Of Evil Deeds.
“For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” (Mark 7:21-23)
The Reward For Sin Is Death.
“For the wages (reward or earnings) of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a)
The Penalty For Sin Is To Spend Eternity In The Lake Of Fire
“Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:14)
“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
If we pay what we owe as sinners, we must spend an eternity in the lake of fire (hell).
You Cannot Save Yourself.
Salvation is not by works
“Not of works, lest any man should boast..(Ephesians 2:9b)
You cannot be good enough to earn your way to heaven.
“not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us” (Titus 3:5)
You cannot be saved by keeping the law. Joining the church and being baptized will not even help save you.
“…by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” (Galatians 2:16)
You are helpless. You cannot save yourself! Sin is the problem and it is sin that needs to be addressed if we are to be saved.
In spite of your sin, God loves you and has done everything necessary for your salvation.
The Good News is that Jesus paid the sin debt you owe for you. Jesus willing gave his life on the cross in your place suffering the death that you deserve so that God could pronounce you innocent
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
God placed the sins of the world, murder, deceit, lying, adultery…. on Jesus Christ. While Christ was bearing all of our sins in His own body, God punished Him in our place to pay the sin debt we owe. This is not something God promised to do, it is something God has already done. On the third day Christ rose from the grave and showed His power over death. It is a fact Jesus Christ has already paid your sin debt. Jesus death and resurrection satisfied God’s just demand that sin be punished. Jesus became your substitute. Jesus said, “It is finished”. Your sin debt has been paid for. In order to be saved we must repent and believe.
God Calls Us To Repent
Firstly Repentance is NOT turning over a new leaf or changing your habits for Jesus to save you. Repentance is a change of attitude and action regarding sin. Hatred of sin turns the repentant person away from his or her sin to God.
It is simply a change of mind, where you admit that you are a woeful sinner, deserving of hell and totally incapable of saving yourself. Thus, you Believe the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. It is believing that Christ died on the cross to pay for your sins, was buried and rose the third day. To believe and trust in the risen saviour and His substitutionary death on the cross, as your only means of salvation.
The Gospel is that Jesus Christ DIED on the cross for our sins, was BURIED, and bodily RESURRECTED three days later.
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (1st Corinthians 15:3-4).
It causes you to turn from trusting in yourself or from any idea of religion that you might have to get you to heaven, to trusting the person Jesus Christ ‘alone’ for salvation and to get you to heaven.
We Must Believe
To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ means that you accept the fact that you are a sinner, that as a sinner you owe the sin penalty, and that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the sin debt you owe. It means that you will completely trust Christ alone to get you to Heaven. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Suggested Prayer
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner deserving of hell. I believe you are the only begotten Son of God, the Savior, who shed your blood to pay for my sins. I believe the Good News that you died on the cross to pay for my sins, that you were buried, and that you rose again three days later for my justification. I place my trust in you alone to get me to Heaven. I accept your free gift of forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Thank you Jesus for saving me! Amen
